What is Mental Health?
Understanding Your Mental Health.
Good mental health is not a singular event but rather an ongoing process. At any point, we experience days, weeks, or even months where we feel resilient and optimistic. Yet, there are moments when our beliefs, emotions, and behaviors change. This causes us to feel less confident and resilient in certain areas of our lives. This can profoundly impact how we think, feel, and behave. It affects our relationships and work experiences. It influences our sense of connection to others, self-worth, physical well-being, and motivation. In fact, for a quarter of the population, these shifts lead to mental health disorders. These include anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. While mental health is often seen as a positive concept, it promotes social and emotional well-being for individuals and groups. It also includes enjoying life. Effective coping with stress and negative emotions is part of it. It involves achieving goals and unlocking one’s full potential. Feeling connected to others is also crucial. Ultimately, mental health is about overall well-being rather than just the absence of a mental health problem.
